Established in 1993, the Department of Commerce is one of the most prominent and well-established departments in the institution, known for its commitment to academic excellence and student success. It offers a diverse range of undergraduate programs including B.Com (Computer Applications), B.Com (Honours), and B.Com (Business Analytics), with an annual intake of over 500 students. The department is supported by a team of experienced and dedicated faculty members who adopt innovative teaching methods to ensure practical, industry-relevant learning. To enhance students’ analytical and hands-on skills, the Commerce Lab was established in 2005. The department also focuses on all-round student development through its academic club SPOORTHY, which organizes a variety of activities such as seminars, group discussions, debates, role plays, case studies, quizzes, and skits at both intra- and inter-college levels. Real-world exposure is provided through regular industrial visits, field trips, and entrepreneurship development programs conducted in collaboration with external organizations. The department has an excellent placement record, with students being recruited by leading companies such as Hinduja Global Solutions, Deloitte, TCS, Straight Street Corporation , GENPACT , Sutherland Global Solutions, Synchrony Financials, WIPRO, Cognizant, Apollo, Amazon, and Infosys. With a good Academic track record and a consistent focus on all round development of the students, has earned a good reputation as one of the Premier colleges under Osmania University.

Special Day
On 26th October 2024, the department celebrated International Accounting Day with a special focus on the significance of accounting in the global economy. The event was organized for the B.Com students, aiming to increase their awareness of accounting principles and its role in shaping businesses and economies. Around 200 students participated in the event, engaging in discussions and activities related to accounting practices.
Extension Activities
On August 14th, 2024, the Department of Commerce, in collaboration with PEARL and IIC, organized a Rakhi Making Workshop titled “A Journey Into Entrepreneurship” at Wesley High School. The workshop aimed to inspire students to explore entrepreneurship by teaching them how to create handmade Rakhis. Participants learned about the process of turning creative ideas into business opportunities. A total of 11 students participated in the event, gaining practical experience and insights into entrepreneurship.
On 11th June 2024, the Department of Commerce organized an Investment Awareness Programme specifically designed for the supporting staff. This initiative aimed to enhance the financial literacy of the staff by providing them with insights into various investment opportunities and strategies.
Certificate Course:
The Commerce Department organised in collabration with Menter me on 26th October 2024 for all the 2nd year students of B. Com at UG Lab & MBA Lab. The Department of Commerce has offered two cutting-edge courses designed to equip students with in-demand data analysis and visualization skills. This comprehensive course combines ADVANCE EXCEL and POWER BI empowering students to analyze, visualize and present data efficiently.
Industrial Visit & Field Trip:
The Industrial Visit & Entrepreneurship Orientation Program, 2024 for B. Com. final year students was organized by Spoorthy Club, Department of Commerce coordinated by Mrs.D.Sangeetha & Mrs.P.Madhavi Latha. Overall 99 students visited NSIC on 25th September, 2024
The department of commerce went on a Field Trip to OTBI (Osmania Technology Business Incubator) on December 20th, 2024. Mrs. G. Preethi and Mrs. Radhika led the students on a comprehensive tour of the incubator facilities. They explored various departments, including the innovation lab, co-working spaces, and the mentorship corner.y

Club Activity (Budget Edition 2025 Economic Times): On 3rd February 2025, the Spoorthy Club hosted a special edition of the Economic Times Budget activity, where students analyzed and discussed the 2025 Union Budget, honing their financial and economic understanding.
Report on Tax Awareness Week: From 24th February to 1st March 2025, the department organized a Tax Awareness Week. During this week, students learned about various tax systems and compliance, and shared their findings in a comprehensive report.
Release of the 6th Edition of the E-Magazine "BYTES & BUYS – THE DIGI MAGAZINE": The 6th edition of the e-magazine titled "BYTES & BUYS – THE DIGI MAGAZINE" was released on 1st March 2025. This edition focused on digital trends and innovations in the commerce and business sectors.
Case Study Analysis through Video Presentation: On 20th March 2025, the department conducted a case study analysis session, where students presented their findings and analyses through video presentations. This event allowed students to showcase their critical thinking and presentation skills.
