The Department of Botany had its humble beginning in the year 1993 and Biotechnology was introduced as its offshoot in the year 2002. Faculty are highly qualified and experts in their respective fields of teaching & research. They constantly work to make students as competent, creative and compassionate individuals by fostering an atmosphere of intellectual rigour , moral values & ethics. The infrastructural facilities are excellent so that research work can be carried out by both students and faculty
The department has carved its own uniqueness in the college by carrying out various environmental activities thereby making students as part of environment conscious citizens. It also carries out Neighbourhood Activities, Seminars, Field Trips , Workshops and Club Activities
In our department, teaching is not only a profession but a passion. It has an outstanding academic track record of securing gold medals and university ranks from Osmania University. Each and every faculty member interacts well with students and motivates them to pursue higher education. Faculty members identify the learners’ needs through assessment tests and interaction. Steps are taken to explore the hidden talent and originality among students. The department encourages student projects, arranges guest lectures by eminent professors and scientists from national laboratories, and also organizes field trips on a regular basis.

Department of Botany and Biotechnology organized a workshop on Resume Writing and Tips on Interview skills for Final year Life science students on 21 February 2025. The resource person of the workshop Mrs. Sindhura Kalita, Senior Strategy Manager, APAC & EMEA, Twilio. alumini of the college batch (2007-2010). She emphasised the students to understand the importance of body language, tone, and communication during interviews Total 83 students attended the workshop.
Institutional Social Responsibility/Outreach Program
On 8 th March 2025, Mrs. Sugantha Mala and Dr. Anjana Shukla along with 8 students of I BtBC and BtMC visited to the Asha Kuteer Foundation, Old Age Home, Boduppal, as a part of Institutional Social Responsibility an outreach program and provided breakfast and lunch to the 42 inmates of old age home. Students interacted with residents who shared their stories and experiences and serve the lunch to them. Total 134 students contributed funds for the breakfast and lunch.
National Mushroom Day
The Department of Botany & Biotechnology celebrated National Mushroom Day on October 15, 2024. The event aimed to create awareness about the importance of mushrooms in the ecosystem, their nutritional value, and their potential applications in various industries. The students of Biotechnology and Botany participated in the competitions held. 45 students participated in Quiz, 21 students in Word search, 18 in Puzzle, 6 in Clay Art. Students got insight to various types of mushrooms growing in varied habitats, differentiate edible and non-edible mushrooms.
Educational trips
Visit the ATAL Bio incubation Centre, CCMB, Hyderabad : Department of Botany & Biotechnology in collaboration with Institution Innovation Council on 18 December 2024, visited the ATAL Bio incubation Centre, CCMB, Hyderabad which is a one of India's Premier Biotechnology incubation centres. It supports the development of innovation start-ups, particularly those working in areas of health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
Visit to Anathgiri hills: On 25th January 2025, Mrs. Sugantha Mala and Dr. Anjana Shukla along with 44 students of Botany and Biotechnology embarked on an educational visit to Ananthgiri Hills, located in the Vikarabad district of Telangana. The trip aimed to enhance the students' understanding of plant diversity, ecological significance, and the practical application of biotechnology in natural ecosystems.
Awareness Program on YOGA of the hands
On June 15, 2024, the Botany and Biotechnology departments, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an Awareness Program on "Yoga of the Hands," focusing on promoting well-being and stress relief among supporting staff. 20 staff participated in the meeting.

Guest lecture was organized on the topic "Hydroponics-Water Grows Wonders" on 7 Aug 2025 for the I,II,III years BtBC & BtMC students.
On August 11, 2025, the Department of Botany organized a lecture on the Vaccine Production from Dr. HarshaVardhan, Director General, Indian Vaccine Manufacturers Association, Hyderabad.
Department of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture on the topic of “Adolescence Health and Wellness” for I, II and III years Biotechnology students on 24th March2025. The resource person Dr. Sylvia Fernandez, Scientist E, National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR), Hyd. The Resource person aimed to educate student’s about the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during adolescence and promote healthy habits and lifestyle choices. Madam enlightened the physical changes occurs during this stage and emphasized the importance of mental health and wellness during adolescence and she highlighted the need for stress management, self-care and positive relationships. She also discussed the importance of healthy habits such as regular exercise, balanced diet and sleep. . Total 112 students attended guest lecture.
On August 24, 2024, the Department of Botany organized a lecture on the "Importance of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants," emphasizing their significance in healthcare and other industries from Dr. Jnanesha A.C, CSIR-CIMAP (Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Research Centre).
Student Centric Activities:
6 students of II BtMC attended a value added course on “IPR and Patenting” from 12 June to 16th July 2025, organized by Dept. of Genetics, Biotechnology at Bhavan’s Vivekananda College of Sciences, Humanities and Commerce. They learned about the basics of patenting, different types of Intellectual properties rights, Case studying on patenting, patent procedure in India, Geographical indication and Gene patenting..
Kunchala Pranavi of 3rd BtMC completed a one month summer internship programme from 1 to 30 July 2025, conducted by Nozarax Audentian (OPC) Pvt. Ltd. which focused on Molecular Cell Biology and Marine Microbiology The objective was to enhance foundational and advanced practical skills applicable in diverse scientific fields. She was hunkered with Best Intern Award and along with the completion certificate and a letter of Recommendation.

Department of Botany & Biotechnology organized Eco club activities on 18 th September 2024 as part of world clean-up campaign included morning session -Awareness Lecture on Bio- enzyme production by Mrs Sunandha an organic farming expert and a alumini of our college, spoke on protocol for production of bio enzyme and its applications as plant growth promoter as well as its role in controlling various pests. Afternoon session had various competitions including "Best out of Waste," quiz, and flashcard competitions, promoting creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness.
