St.Pious Library : At A Glance:
Textbook Section
- Textbooks prescribed in the syllabus are kept here for the benefit of the users. Depending on demand, number of copies is increased. Previous year question papers are also kept here and users can take photocopies of the same or they can access remotely through Web Opac.
Reference Section
- The reference collection comprises of reference books prescribed in the syllabus, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, maps, atlases, costly and rare books. A separate reference section is provided for UG, PG & MBA with seating capacity of 40, 24 & 60 respectively.
Current Periodicals Section
- The library subscribes to 57 Journals & Magazines both national and international, which are displayed on separate racks. The latest issue is displayed on the racks and back volumes are kept beneath the desk of the rack, College is also buying Eight Daily News papers.
Classification Scheme
- Classification is a scheme for grouping like books and separating unlike books. We adopted Dewey decimal classification scheme 22nd edition, which has been widely recognized by the international community.
Cataloguing
- The books are catalogued as per Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules-II, revised edition, in order to bring uniformity in cataloguing practices. Subject headings are assigned based on Sears list of subject headings and Library of Congress subject headings which are recognized as standard codes by international professional community.
Locating the documents
- Books are arranged according to call numbers followed by book number on the shelves. OPAC facility has been provided to assist the users in locating the material. The users can access the database through author, title, classified order, subject, key words in title and combinational search. Well trained library staff members are always available in identifying and locating the required documents.
Arrangement of books
- The Library has adopted open access system which facilitates the readers to go to the bookshelves directly and select books of their choice freely, which is seen as the greatest advantage to the users. The books are arranged in classes. These are:
- General collection
- Reference collection
- Textbook collection
- Back volumes of periodicals
- The books acquired are accessioned, classified and catalogued. After processing, the books are sent to the shelves concerned.
Circulation Section
- For issue of books the borrower presents the books along with Bar-Coded Identity card to the staff at the circulation counter. After necessary checking, the library staff issue books using the check out option in the NewZenLib Version Helium 3.3 software and stamps the due date on the borrowers due date slip. The book should be presented physically for return or renewal. Users can reserve books and get such information as to who the book was issued to, when it is due and list of books that are issued to a particular borrower etc.
Facilities:
WEB OPAC :
- Users can access our library database remotely with their android mobiles or laptops.OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue):The different types of searches available to users are simple search, advanced search, additional search, browse, ISBN, accession number, latest arrivals, journals, periodicals and bulletins. In browse search the user can access the database through author, title, subject, classified, keywords and combinational search.
Book Bank:
- It is a collection of books purchased and donated by Alumni. This facility is provided for economically backward students. This service is provided free of cost and is over and above the regular issue of Books on ID cards. Students can keep the Books for One Semester.
Internet access:
- Free internet access is available for staff and students with 18 systems in UG , PG & MBA libraries to carry out academic activities.
CC Cameras:
- CC Cameras are arranged in the library for security purpose.
Inter Library Loan:
- The College Library provides inter library loan facility to its readers to cater to the extra reading needs of its readers.
Services:
Lending:
- All the books and user ID cards are bar coded which helps to save the time of library personnel as well as borrowers.
Reference:
- The College Libraries have a large collection of reference books on advanced disciplines that are aimed at developing students beyond their curriculum. The library has many motivational books for general reading. for quick reference like encyclopedias, directories, handbooks, dictionaries, yearbooks, almanacs and competitive examination books like JRF, CSIR, NET, SLET etc. are available. Back volumes of the Journals since 2006 are also available.
Current awareness service:
- We provide this service to draw attention to recent additions ,List of content pages of the Periodicals/Magazines is given to the readers frequently, through email to teaching staff members .
News paper clippings:
- a Display Board devoted to an archival of editorial clippings and important articles compiled on various interesting subjects.
Question papers:
- The Library provides the soft copies as well as Printed form of question papers for the benefit of the user community.
Photocopying: The library possesses a rich collection of reference and rare books that cannot be loaned out for home reading. Readers can get a part of those documents photocopied at a nominal charge.
Subject Bibliographies:
- We update Subject catalogues continually for the benefit of users.
Syllabus Copies:
- We Preserve Syllabus copies of Current and Previous for consultation.
Consultation with the Librarian :
- Students can consult the librarian for problems related to the library and its services. The librarian will try to settle them in her capacity or forward them to the Principal of the college.
Suggestion Box :
- A suggestion box is kept at the entrance of the library seeking valuable suggestions and recommendations from the readers. The suggestions made by them are taken up and discussed in the library committee meeting and healthy suggestions are implemented .A Display Board devoted to an archival of editorial clippings and important articles compiled on various interesting subjects.
Depatmental Libraries:
- Institutional Membership with DELNET where users may search electronic / e-resources as well as loan Ebooks from DELNET. Please contact Librarian for your UserID and Password
- Department of Library Science Organized "Star Users Meet" on 05/09/2024. Library Committee selected 64 students as star users and presented "Star User Card" to them for the academic Year 2024-25.
- Department of Library Science adopted one pair of peacock and one Indian Gharial at Nehru Zoological park through MoU between Curator and St.Pious for one year.
- All the UG & PG Students are requested to return Library Books after Exams, on College Re-opening Day
