Welcome to Department of Psychology

New combination with Psychology, Mass Communication & Modern Literature ( Eng.Lit ) was introduced in 2013.

The Department strongly believes that a vibrant, goal oriented development requires a healthy interaction between society and state. Moulding the students into conscious, rational and responsible citizens is the vision of the department. The strength of the department lies in the commitment of the teachers and their close bond with the students. The perfect student –teacher ratio helps the teachers to closely monitor the students in combining academic excellence with civic consciousness.

Activities of the Department:

Guest Lecture:

  • An orientation on “Energy Psychology and Alternative Therapies” was organised on 21st Dec 2016 to manage stress and balance energy levels

Movie review competition:

  • Students of psychology B.A I (M.P.ML) has presented movie reviews on various psychology movies in English and Telugu language.

Social Awareness Events:

  • The department of psychology students participated in 2k run which was organized by Indian Psychiatric Association in collaboration with Care Hospital, Gurunanak, Musheerabad on the theme “Suicide Prevention” at Peoples Plaza. Ms. Vedavalli Atchul, lecturer Dept. of psychology along with the students participated in the run.

Marathon!

  • The department of psychology students participated in 2k run which was organized by Swetcha Foundation on the theme “Step for child - II” at Peoples Plaza

Workshops/Presentations:

  • The department of psychology organized one day Inter-collegiate Seminar on “Scope of psychology-Challenges and Opportunities” 14th September 2015 in the auditorium. Around 100 students participated in all the session actively.
  • The department conducted a 1 day workshop for II & III B.A MPML students on “Introduction to hypnotheraphy as intervention for counseling” conducted by the resource person Priyanka Padhi – a hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and counseling psychologist on 17th Jan 2017.
  • The department conducted quiz for II BA MPML on 25th June 2016 on “Attribution Theories.
  • Conducted power point presentations for the III B.A MPML students on Abnormal Psychology on 4 July 2016, Social Psychology on 15-17 July 2016.

  • Poster presentation was held on “Propaganda Techniques” on 2st Sep 2016 and “Psychopathology” on 6th Nov 2016.
  • Conducted “LIFE MAP” presentations for I BA MPML to recall their good and bad memories and know their strengths and weaknesses.

Cynosure Creative Carnival – Intercollegiate Festival:

  • Cynosure was an intercollegiate festival organized by department of mass communication and on 30th November, 2016 in the college campus. The festival had various competitions like Short films on issues like Drug addiction, Save the girl child, Environment pollution and Brand Quiz, Prank Call, Mock Press, Rock Band etc. Students from various colleges participated in the festival and enjoyed the food and other products put up in the stalls. The other events like Lip- Sync Battle, Rock Band etc also attracted good number of participants. The prize winners were awarded in the valedictory. The overall event was a great success and helped the students in developing their event organizing skills./li>

Radio Capsule:

  • The second year students were assigned to make and edit short radio programmes of 15 minutes on various topics like social issues, festivals, environment etc. Students were also made to include music, ads and interviews in their radio capsule. /li>

Development Communication Magazine:

  • The third year students made project report on the various development programmes by state and central governments and use of media in communicating them. For this purpose students collected information on welfare scheme, gathered various media programmes, ads, posters published for these schemes and arranged them making a small project report/li>

B.A. (M.P.ML)

  • Our club- Psychosis

    As part of Student centric activities, the department intends to develop the interpersonal skills, social concern and understanding of one’s and others in the right perception from their joining year by conducting various activities throughout the year

  • Psychology Laboratory

    The department can boast of well equipped laboratory consisting of all the necessary equipment used for testing intelligence, memory, thinking, attitudes, attention etc., and questionnaires and material necessary for lab work.

  • Activities of the psychosis club

    Lectures and Seminars: Experts from academics are invited to address the students on various topics regularly Organizing workshop, on the title “Life Skills”, seminars on various aspects of psychology at state level is the regular feature of the department. The Department has the credit of conducting student development programmes in collaboration with Osmania University and Osmania University college for Women.
